Dear Howe,
You will know of Hong Kong University and
of the problem of its future, and I believe you have
heard something of the local view from J. R. Masson
of Butterfield and Swire's who is closely interested
in the University and was a member of a local committee
in Hong Kong which in 1937 examined the University'8
position and produced a rather controversial report.
The Vice-Chancellor Sloss is coming on
leave in the summer and proposes to raise with us the
whole question of the University's future in the
Far East, a problem in which we shall no doubt secure
the interest of the Foreign Office. You may like to
have a copy of the attached letter which Northcote
has sent to Moore reporting the appointment of a
R. G. HOME, ESQ., C.M.G.
